Athletic Club star left out of squad for Sevilla clash | OneFootball

A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga outfit Athletic Club has been left out of the club’s squad for their upcoming meeting with Sevilla.

The player in question? Aitor Paredes.

Ernesto Valverde’s Athletic are due to make the trip to Andalusia on Sunday, for a La Liga clash with the aforementioned Sevilla.

The squad of players called upon by Valverde to make the trip to The Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, in turn, was unveiled online a short time ago.

And one glaring omission came in the form of defender Aitor Paredes:

Athletic’s official medical report on the matter confirmed the 24-year-old ‘will miss the Lions’ La Liga clash with Sevilla FC after suffering a muscle injury to his right thigh’.

Drawn on Paredes’ situation during his pre-match press conference, meanwhile, Ernesto Valverde had the following to say:

“It’s an overload. It’s more of a precaution. We took a risk with him the other day because of the game and the problems we were having in the centre of defence. There was a moment in the second-half when I had to substitute him to prevent it from escalating. Today he wasn’t comfortable, so we decided not to let him come.”
