Aston Villa travel to Brentford on Saturday with manager Unai Emery needing to find a solution to his side’s early-season struggles.
A frustrating 1-1 draw on the opening day, combined with a stretched squad, means the manager will be demanding a more clinical performance for the trip to west London.
Unai Emery’s biggest headache is a forced change in central defence. Ezri Konsa is suspended following his red card against Newcastle, which is a significant blow to the backline. Pau Torres, who was an unused substitute last weekend, is the natural replacement and is set to make his first start of the season alongside Tyrone Mings.
The manager’s options are limited after a summer of minimal recruitment and the departure of key players like Jacob Ramsey.
With new striker Evann Guessand still waiting to be integrated, the attacking burden will again fall on Ollie Watkins, who will be supported by captain John McGinn and the influential Youri Tielemans. Emi Martinez is back from suspension.
Aston Villa predicted XI: Martinez; Cash, Mings, Torres, Digne; Kamara, Tielemans; McGinn, Malen, Rogers; Watkins.
The Premier League fixture takes place at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, 23rd August 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm BST.
Due to the 3pm blackout rule in the UK, this match will not be broadcast live. Highlights will be shown on BBC’s Match of the Day, with radio commentary available on BBC Radio 5 Live.
