Villains out to confirm top four spot

Villa have enjoyed a memorable season under Unai Emery and their place in the top four, and the Champions League qualification that comes with it, may already be assured before they take to the field on Monday if Tottenham fail to get a result against Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

However, the Villans go into this contest having taken just a solitary point from their last two Premier League fixtures against Chelsea and Brighton, while they were dumped out of the Europa Conference League on Thursday night after losing at home and away to Olympiakos.

Liverpool have also seen their form dip over the spring, leading to their title charge petering out, but they returned to winning ways against Tottenham last time out and will be looking for a strong showing in Jurgen Klopp’s penultimate match in charge.

The Reds also have a strong recent record against Villa. They are unbeaten in the last seven meetings between the sides, winning six of those, although their last defeat in the fixture was a 7-2 loss at Villa Park in October 2020.

This season’s reverse meeting at Anfield in September ended in a routine 3-0 victory for Liverpool, with strikes from Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah coming either side of an own goal from Matty Cash.

Aston Villa vs Liverpool Team News

Aston Villa were without several key players for Thursday’s loss in Greece to Olympiakos, but Emery has stated that there is a chance Alex Moreno (calf), Morgan Rogers (hamstring), Nicolo Zaniolo (back) and Youri Tielemans (muscle) could all play some part in Monday’s final home match of the season.

However, Tyrone Mings, Emi Buendia and Boubacar Kamara (all knee), as well as Jacob Ramsey (toe), are still on the treatment table and are likely to miss the remainder of the campaign.

Liverpool may be boosted by the return of forward Diogo Jota following a hip problem for the trip to Villa Park, while Conor Bradley could make his first appearance for almost a month following an ankle injury.

Klopp remains without the services of long-term absentees Ben Doak, Joel Matip (both knee) and Thiago Alcantara (muscle).
