Hale End graduate Myles Lewis-Skelly has earned international recognition after a remarkable few months with Arsenal. The teenager enjoyed a breakthrough 2024-25 season, rising from relative obscurity to become a key member of Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad. Though primarily a midfielder, he cemented his place in the team as a left-back and has made the position his own ahead of the new campaign.
As a testament to his meteoric rise, Lewis-Skelly has now been shortlisted for one of football’s most prestigious youth honours.
The 18-year-old has been nominated for the Kopa Trophy, an award presented annually to the best performing under-21 players in the world. His nomination was confirmed by the official Ballon d’Or account on X.
The Arsenal starlet features on a star-studded list that includes Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and PSG duo Joao Neves and Désiré Doué. Ten players in total were nominated, making Lewis-Skelly’s inclusion even more impressive given the global competition.
The youngster’s rise has been nothing short of exceptional. He made 39 first-team appearances last season, scoring once and assisting once. His goal was particularly memorable and demonstrated the confidence with which he’s approached his new role.
Internationally, he also made an impact by scoring on his England debut against Albania back in March. This nomination is a proud moment for Lewis-Skelly, his family, and everyone at Arsenal Football Club.

Arsenal’s influence on this year’s Ballon d’Or honours extends well beyond Lewis-Skelly. As highlighted on the Arsenal’s official website, several men’s and women’s players have received nominations.
Renée Slegers, head coach of Arsenal Women, has been nominated for the Women’s Coach of the Year. David Raya is shortlisted for the Yashin Trophy (best men’s goalkeeper), while Daphne van Domselaar features in the running for the women’s equivalent. Michelle Agyemang, who was awarded Young Player of the Tourament at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, has been nominated for the inaugural Women’s Kopa Trophy.
The club will no doubt take immense pride in this wave of recognition, with even more Arsenal names expected to appear in the final Ballon d’Or nominations. Alessia Russo and Mariona Caldentey are both considered strong contenders for the Women’s Ballon d’Or itself.
Thoughts Gooners? Nice to see our Gunners up there?
