In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Dean Jones urged Arsenal to make a move for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams this summer. Jones said,

“There are a few rumours going around on social media about Rafael Leao being an Arsenal target. While it does make sense in some way, I just cannot see this coming through.

“I can believe his style of play is something Arsenal would love to add to the mix. His characteristics fit with the fact they want to find a new wide option and he is direct and exciting, but he has a high release clause.

“Even though that won’t be met by anyone, you are still looking at a £100million player. I don’t sense that Arsenal will go that high, and I’m not sure I really see the player on the move yet.

“If we are to look for a signing from abroad, I think a player like Nico Williams would make more sense.”

Williams’ Impressive Form In La Liga This Season

Williams is enjoying a productive campaign at the Spanish club after putting in a lot of impressive displays for them in the final third. The 21-year-old has banged in seven goals and grabbed 16 assists in 34 appearances for Athletic Bilbao this season across all fronts.

The Spanish talent has been a reliable performer on the left flank as he is averaging 1.6 shots, 1.5 key passes and 2.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has also been excellent when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 78.8% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

What Will Williams Add To Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta’s Side?

Williams can use his pace to get in behind the opponent’s backline and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet. He usually generates some power with his shot attempts and has got the vision to create a few decent chances for others around him in and around the opposition penalty box.

The Spaniard has done well to add plenty of goals and assists to his game this season. Hence, he would be a great addition to Arsenal‘s attack this summer. Williams has what it takes to add more quality and depth to Mikel Arteta’s squad and help the Gunners compete across all fronts in the coming seasons.

At 21, the future looks quite bright for the Spanish wide player, so the North London club should focus on signing him later this year.
