Arsenal are set to become the first club to spend £1 million in a women's football transfer after Liverpool accepted a bid for Olivia Smith.

Naomi Girma is currently the most expensive women's transfer when Chelsea paid $1.1 million (£883,000) for the defender from San Diego Wave back in January.

Journalist Tom Garry of The Guardian has reported that Liverpool rejected previous offers from the Gunners before accepting what would become a world-record fee.

Should the deal go through it would be the second time that the European champions have signed a player from Liverpool this window with Taylor Hinds already joining on a free transfer.

Canada international Smith moved to Europe in 2023 and starred for Sporting CP before moving to Liverpool in the summer of 2024.

Last season, the 20-year-old played 25 times in all competitions for the Reds, scoring nine times.
