Arsenal suffered their first defeat of pre-season as they were beaten by Tottenham.

Spurs were 1-0 winners in the first-ever north London derby to be staged overseas, with the match taking place in Hong Kong.

Pape Matar Sarr scored the only goal of the game just before the break, scoring from just inside the Arsenal half.

The Gunners brought on Viktor Gyokeres for his debut as they tried to get back into the game, but they could not break Spurs down.

Simon Collings watched Arsenal in action and rated the players...

David Raya 5

Left stranded for the Spurs goal after Lewis-Skelly lost possession. Unusually shaky when trying to deal with set-pieces.

Ben White 6

Started the game a bit slowly, however he got better as it went on. Overlapped well in the second half and looked a threat.

William Saliba 7

Just about Arsenal’s best player. Looked so calm and composed throughout, especially when bringing the ball out of defence.

Jakub Kiwior 6

Caught out every now and then when trying to call the ball forward.

Myles Lewis-Skelly 6

Caught on the ball for Tottenham’s goal, although replays appeared to show that Richarlison clipped him. Recovered and was better after the break.

Martin Odegaard 6

Showed a hunger to get shots off as Arsenal pushed for an equaliser. A lot of Arsenal’s player, as usual, went through him as he combined with Saka and White.

Christian Norgaard 7

One of the positives for Arsenal from this game. Looked solid at the base of midfield and broke up play, especially early in the second half.

Declan Rice 6

Had one driving run into the box after a long ball forward. A steady performance, but still looks to getting up to speed.

Bukayo Saka 6

Failed countless times as Tottenham looked to stifle the winger. The odd bright moment, but could not make the impact he so often does.

Kai Havertz 5

With the looming figure of Viktor Gyokeres on the bench, he did not trouble the scorers. Created a good chance for Martinelli and had one tame effort of his own saved.

Gabriel Martinelli 5

A fairly quiet game for the Brazilian. Flashed one shot over the crossbar after a neat interchange with Havertz.

Substitutions

Martin Zubimendi (Norgaard 68’) 6

Tried to make an immediate impact and sent a shot from outside the box just over the crossbar.

Leandro Trossard (Martinelli 68’) 5

A frustrating game for the Belgian, who had to go off injured after coming on.

Oleksandr Zinchenko (Lewis-Skelly 77’) N/A

Viktor Gyokeres (Havertz 77’) 6

Not on for long enough to make an impact, with Arsenal being careful with his minutes. Will be hungry to start one of next week's friendlies.

Mikel Merino (Rice 77’) N/A

Cristhian Mosquera (Kiwior 78’) N/A

Max Dowman (Saka 78’) N/A

Reiss Nelson (Trossard 85’) N/A

Sub not used: Setford, Rojas-Fedorushchenko, Nichols, Salmon, Lokonga, Copley, Nwaneri, Kabia, Harriman-Annous.
