Arsenal have paid an emotional tribute to departing Kieran Tierney ahead of his summer switch to Celtic. The Premier League runners up decided at the beginning of the year that the 2024/25 campaign would be Tierney’s last and that they would not be activating the option to extend the Scotland Internationalist’s deal.
This opened the door for Celtic to make a sensational move to bring the boyhood Celtic fan back to the club that he left in the summer of 2019. Arsenal, however, have clearly recognised the quality both as a player and as a person exhibited by Tierney and related an emotional online tribute to the player.
Tierney made 144 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 6 times and making 14 assists. The full-back returns to Glasgow with an FA Cup winners medal but you can’t help but feel that he could have and perhaps should have had a greater return from his time in North London. There were offers to remain in the Premier League with David Moyes’ Everton interested as well as European clubs – such as Seville, Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus interested in the player. Celtic offered Tierney an emotional return but also the prospect of taking the team to the next level in European football.
There has been no official update from Celtic regarding Tierney, whose deal runs out on June 30th, and excitement is building amongst the support about the prospect of seeing the Celtic hero back in the Hoops.
