Arsenal are leading Manchester United in the race to sign one of Napoli’s prized assets.
The Gunners are expected to bolster the striking department at the end of the season, and they are already looking at multiple options.
Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu now claims that Arsenal have officially entered the pursuit of Osimhen, who is on loan at Galatasaray.
He added that the Gunners are a small step ahead of United for the striker, who will have a £62m release clause in his Napoli contract this summer.
The Gunners have had a mixed Premier League campaign. Both Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus have been ruled out with season-ending injuries.
This has left the club without a specialist striker. Havertz is poised to return at the start of pre-season, but manager Mikel Arteta will demand another marksman.
Osimhen was linked with the Gunners last summer, but the club did not consider an approach due to the hefty £111m release clause at that point in time.
Napoli were prepared to sell him for less before the transfer deadline, but Arsenal opted against looking for an alternative to top target Benjamin Sesko.
Sesko remains a strong option for Arsenal, but we won’t be surprised if the Gunners contemplate an approach for a more accomplished striker in Osimhen.
The Nigerian ace has had a good season with Galatasaray with 20 goals in all competitions. With the chances Arsenal create, he could secure a higher goal tally.
For £62m, a move to Arsenal can’t be ruled out for Osimhen, who was described as ‘world-class‘ by Jose Mourinho when he was the manager of Roma.
