Arsenal Midfielder Mikel Merino Reacts to Defeat Against Spurs
Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino's called on his teammates to turn the 1 - 0 friendly defeat to Tottenham Hotspur into motivation for the upcoming season.
Speaking after Thursday’s clash in the Asian Tour finale, the Spanish international admitted disappointment at the result but stressed the importance of pre season preparation.
"It wasn’t the result we wanted. Winning is always priority but in pre season, fitness and fan connection matter just as much" Merino stated.
The former Real Sociedad star added that Arsenal dominated much of the game and should focus on the positives:
"The result's the worst part but this feeling will fuel us. We must grow, learn and push forward"
Merino also praised the Gunners massive fan base in Asia:
"The support was amazing. We know it’s hard for fans here to follow our games due to time zones. So, thank you for being with us"
Arsenal ended their 2 week Asian tour with 2 win in Singapore before the narrow loss to Spurs. Merino concluded:
"It’s been fantastic 2 week. These tours help us discover new places and proudly show what Arsenal represents , our culture and our unity as football family"..
