Arsenal ‘have made contact’ with the camp of a player that Tottenham Hotspur remain keen on signing, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have been expected to strengthen this summer, with major calls from fans for an elite striker to be brought to the club.
Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen have all been linked, but Arsenal want other signings too.
Gyokeres is currently at war with Sporting Lisbon over an exit, but Arsenal are suggested to be able to do the deal quickly if they want to.
They are interested in landing Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze and ‘made contact’ with the player’s camp ‘over the weekend’.
Arsenal know what would be needed to do a deal for the Eagles man and are talking about it with those who would be involved.
The Gunners face competition from rivals Tottenham though, as they ‘remain also keen’ on signing Eze and, like Mikel Arteta’s men, have Champions League football to offer.
Crystal Palace may be hoping the player is open to multiple destinations as it would help to drive up his price.
While losing the 27-year-old would be a blow, he only has two years left on his current contract at Selhurst Park.
Eze made 34 appearances in the Premier League last season, making 16 goal contributions.
He was a key man in the Eagles’ FA Cup success, scoring in the quarter-final, the semi-final and then the winner in the final against Manchester City.
Winning the race for his signature would be seen as something of a coup and Arsenal appear to be looking very closely at the deal.
With over two months left in the transfer window this summer though, there is no pressing need to move to sign him now, unless rivals for his signature up the ante with approaches and firm offers.
