Having made his first substitute appearance for loan club Fulham last weekend, Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson got his first goal in his first start against Preston North End in midweek.

That game was in the League Cup, and Nelson returned to the bench for Fulham’s Premier League fixture against Newcastle United on Saturday.

But when he was eventually introduced in the 74th minute, he made sure to leave his mark on the contest.

Fulham were 2-1 up at the time of Nelson’s introduction, and he put the game to bed in injury time by pouncing on an error by Bruno Guimaraes.

Guimaraes played a poor pass across his penalty area, and it deflected off Rodrigo Muniz and into the path of Nelson in the middle of the box.

The winger fired a composed finish into the net for 3-1, his second goal in two games for Fulham. You can watch the goal here or below from the timestamp 2:47.

Even before Nelson’s goal, you could feel Arsenal’s influence all over the Fulham team. Their second goal had been created by Alex Iwobi, and scored by Emile Smith Rowe, who had already hit the bar earlier in the half.

Iwobi later had a great chance to score himself, but he was denied by Nick Pope from close range.

A former Arsenal duo almost became the villains of the piece after Newcastle had pulled things back to 2-1, with Bernd Leno’s slack pass to Smith Rowe pounced upon by Fabian Schar. Fortunately, the defender missed the target and Fulham retained the lead.

That allowed Nelson to kill the contest in injury time and keep his good form going.
