Former Arsenal academy player Michal Rosiak is set to continue his professional career with Widzew Łódź after being released by the Gunners earlier this summer. The midfielder had been part of the Arsenal set-up since 2016 and was regarded as an important figure in the Under-21 squad last season.

Arsenal’s youth academy is renowned for developing talented prospects, offering them the opportunity to progress through the ranks towards first-team football. Rosiak had harboured hopes of making the step up to Mikel Arteta’s senior squad, a goal that requires exceptional performances and consistency from young players.

From academy prospect to senior opportunity in Poland

During the last campaign, Rosiak was a key presence in the Premier League 2 side, contributing regularly and demonstrating strong technical ability. However, his performances were not sufficient to secure a promotion to Arsenal’s first-team squad, where competition for places remains extremely high.

The decision to release him at the end of the season meant the 19-year-old was free to seek new opportunities elsewhere. Widzew Łódź have now moved to offer him the chance to establish himself in senior football, recognising his potential and experience gained during his time in England.

While the Polish club are keen to complete the move, Arsenal are entitled to receive training compensation for the years Rosiak spent within their academy system. Negotiations between the two sides over this matter are ongoing, as reported by Aleksander Bernard on X.

Arsenal’s approach and Rosiak’s future prospects

The situation reflects the reality for many academy graduates who, despite strong performances at youth level, face considerable challenges in breaking into one of the most competitive first-team environments in European football. Arsenal’s current squad depth and quality mean only the most exceptional prospects secure opportunities under the current management.

For Rosiak, joining Widzew Łódź presents the possibility of regular first-team action and a platform to further his development in a competitive senior setting. The move also offers the chance to re-establish himself in his home country, where his progress will be closely monitored.

Although Arsenal ultimately decided not to retain him, the club will undoubtedly follow his career with interest. If he continues to progress and adapts quickly to the demands of senior football, Rosiak could yet fulfil the potential recognised during his formative years in north London.
