Reiss Nelson‘s future at Arsenal appears uncertain with reports suggesting Brighton are circling ahead of a potential summer move. The 24-year-old winger has found himself firmly behind the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli in the pecking order, leading to frustration over his lack of playing time.

According to sources close to Football Insider, Arsenal wouldn’t stand in Nelson’s way if a suitable offer arrived. The Gunners are understood to be hoping for a fee between £25 million and £30 million, a price tag they believe that reflects Nelson’s talent, potential and homegrown status. It’s around double what he is currently valued at on Transfermarket.

This potential transfer presents Arsenal with a dilemma. On the one hand, Nelson is, as mentioned, a talented homegrown player with a long contract remaining. It runs until 2027 with an option for an additional year. Keeping him on the squad adds depth and competition for attacking positions. He’s also a familiar face in the locker room, having come through the Arsenal academy.

On the other hand, Nelson’s lack of regular playing time isn’t ideal for his development and, as much as we all love Reiss, an upgrade could surely be found. If nothing else, at least a player Arteta trusts to play, something he doesn’t seem to do with Nelson. A move to Brighton, where he could potentially play a similar role to Kaoru Mitoma in Roberto De Zerbi‘s system, could offer him a chance to reignite his career. Additionally, the £25-£30 million fee could be reinvested into strengthening the squad.

The coming months will be crucial for both Arsenal and Nelson. The Gunners will weigh the pros and cons of a potential sale, while Nelson will consider whether a move to Brighton offers the platform he needs to showcase his talents more consistently.
