Defender Tomas Palacios could leave Inter Milan on loan in January after spending the first half of the season at the club.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Inter are now getting closer and closer to completing a deal to sign 21-year-old defender Palacios from Independiente Riviadivia.

The Nerazzurri are reportedly finalizing the deal in talks over the next day or two.

Palacios is the player Inter have decided on as their defensive reinforcement for the summer.

Inter have been assessing their options at the back for more than a month now. The profile they’ve been seeking is clear.

The Nerazzurri have been in search of a left-sided defender who can back up Alessandro Bastoni in the back three.

And Inter owners Oaktree Capital have given a clear dictate. They have insisted on signing a young defender with room for growth rather than a stopgap solution.

Tomas Palacios Could Leave Inter On Loan In January

Palacios certainly checks all the boxes for Inter.

And the 21-year-old will be part of the Nerazzurri’s first team squad right away.

Inter will need the extra defensive depth. This is because the versatile Carlos Augusto will be required to cover at wingback whilst Tajon Buchanan is recovering from a broken leg.

Therefore, Augusto will not be able to deputize for Bastoni.

As such, there is every chance that Palacios will get opportunities to feature in his first few months at Inter.

But it is not exactly as though the Argentine is likely to start regularly.

And Inter will not want Palacios’s growth to stagnate due to playing time being relatively limited.

As such, there is every chance that the Nerazzurri may decide to send Palacios out on loan in January.

This would allow the Argentine to feature more regularly and gain experience.

And Buchanan should be back available by then. That would allow Augusto to reprise his role as a centre-back from last season over the second half of this campaign.
