Manchester City will enter the 25/26 season with a plethora of centre-backs in their squad. Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol are seemingly City’s first-choice centre-back pairing. Abdukodir Khusanov, John Stones, Nathan Ake and Manual Akanji will also play their part at the back for Pep Guardiola’s side. Vitor Reis looks set to join Girona on loan for next season. When looking at where City could improve their squad for next the centre-back position appears well stocked.

But a new report indicates that Manchester City could potentially move for RB Leipzig centre-back Castello Lukeba. Is City poised to make a surprise move in the market? That is up for debate at this stage of the summer transfer window.

Manchester City have reportedly made contact to potentially sign Castello Lukeba from RB Leipzig.

Rudy Galetti has reported via X that Manchester City has begun to explore the possibility of signing Castello Lukeba from RB Leipzig. Galetti’s report can be viewed below.

Unless a drastic move or two unfold it would seem unlikely that City would move for another centre-back.

Manchester City’s stocks at centre-back are plentiful. It is one position that City do not seem to need anymore reinforcements. As good a player as Castello Lukeba is, he is one of the better young centre-backs in Europe, there doesn’t seem to be any need for Manchester City to sign another centre-back. The only way that could occur is if something drastic occurred during the latter stages of the summer transfer window.

But what a drastic move could be doesn’t appear to be obvious. John Stones has stated that his intention is to stay at Manchester City for next season. Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and Abdukodir Khusanov won’t be leaving the club. That leaves Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji. As of right now it seems far fetched that both players will leave Manchester City this summer. As of right now, there doesn’t seem to be any concrete interest from any club in the pair. So based on all of that there isn’t any need for City to sign another centre-back.

Rudy Galetti’s report indicates that Manchester City have begun to explore a move for RB Leipzig centre-back Castello Lukeba. It may become a story to watch for but a lot would have to play out for it to become a move City will pursue. Unless they deem Castello Lukeba as a player they simply must sign no matter what.
