It looks like Anthony Martial has already played his last game in a Manchester United shirt.

While that statement should be painfully obvious considering his injury record at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag had other ideas.

Talking to the press before the final, the manager had hinted that Martial would be available and fans were dreaming up fantasy scenarios where his farewell game could provide the same thrill as his debut did.

However, his spell at United looks set to end with a whimper now.

Manchester Evening News’ Samuel Luckhurst reports that Martial wasn’t seen travelling with the squad for the final.

The squad left for London today for the game tomorrow and the travelling party members will provide further clarity on who’s available.

United figured to have nearly the full quota except for Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, and Tyrell Malacia for the game.

However, now with Martial already ruled out, there could yet be further late cases of withdrawal.

The likes of Victor Lindelof and Mason Mount are also just returning from injuries and while the latter especially was spotted in training, he’s unlikely to play a huge role.

Still, Ten Hag has mentioned that he finally has a “luxury” problem of actually having players to choose from for the game.

He said that United were competitive in the league fixture at the Etihad Stadium but City have depth on their bench was the difference.

United will have that now and even though Martial looks like he will be ruled out, it arguably won’t make much of a difference.

The Frenchman’s last game for the club was way back in December against Bournemouth and in his absence, the attack has also started to click somewhat.
