In the summer, the media claims were endless about how supposedly Anthony Gordon was desperate to move to Liverpool, however, it appeared to be just the same claim/story endlessly repeated, without any real substance behind what was being said day after day.

Sky Sports have now asked the question, what that celebration was all about?

Anthony Gordon making his feelings clear…

“The celebration was just… I have heard so much talk this year about my future, where I am going, where I want to go. Without anybody asking me.

“All I have heard is ‘When is he leaving’ which is… who said I was ever going to leave? I am very, very happy here [at Newcastle United]. I love this place. I love playing football here.”

Great to hear.

Anthony Gordon also saying that the team and himself as an individual have to take responsibility for the inconsistency shown so far this season at Newcastle United.

“One week we are really good, one week we are really poor, I think that is where we need to improve.

“We have been a little bit inconsistent, me as well individually, I have been really inconsistent. I think if I could play more consistently then the team would do better.

“I think Shearer was right when he said we were really good against the ‘big six’ and against the other teams we have to perform the same.

“If you watch us against a ‘big six’ team at home, you kind of know what you are going to get, if you look at us against a bottom half team away from home, you probably don’t know what you are going to get.

“It hurts to say it, it’s not a good thing, it’s not who we want to be.

“I don’t think is any excuse, we just have to accept the responsibility. We just need to be better.

“I think we need to get better at being that dark arts team that we were the first two years under the gaffer. I think that is what has been lacking. Teams are finding it ok to play against us, when that has never been the case.”

Keith Downie:

“The performance and result it was last week against Liverpool. You scored yourself, you looked like you enjoyed it, your celebration has had a few people talking, can you just explain to us what that was all about?”

Anthony Gordon:

“The celebration was just…

“I have heard so much talk this year about my future, where I am going, where I want to go. Without anybody asking me.

“It is all just like, leave me to play football.”

Keith Downie:

“So it has all just frustrated you a little bit?”

Anthony Gordon:

“It has.

“It has took me away from enjoying my football this year, I think that is where the inconsistency has come from, because I got caught in that a little bit.

“But I just want to play football, especially for Newcastle.

“We are only human and I am only 23.

“All I have heard is ‘When is he leaving’ which is… who said I was ever going to leave?
