Manchester City have been making moves to tie down key players and key components of their future on contract extensions. Erling Haaland signed a 9-and-a-half-year contract extension last year. Rico Lewis is on the verge of signing a 5-year contract extension with the club. Yesterday, Manchester City announced that Ruben Dias had signed a long-term contract extension with the club. Dias’ new deal will end in 2029. City has now gotten another key pillar of Pep Guardiola’s side to commit his future to the club.
Manchester City confirmed a four-year contract extension for Ruben Dias on mancity.com yesterday. Regarding signing a new deal at City, Ruben Dias was delighted to have committed his future to the club. The Portuguese centre-back explained: “I am incredibly happy today. I’m so proud to represent this great Club. City are where I want to be – at the top of the sport, competing for trophies. The club’s ambition aligns perfectly with mine, and as a footballer there is nothing better than that.”
“I love Manchester – it is my home now – and I love the Manchester City fans. Their support from day one has been absolutely unbelievable, and I appreciate them a lot.”
“When I think about the trophies we have won and the way we have played our football during my time here, I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else.”
As a player, Ruben Dias plays a key role for Manchester City. He is one of the better centre-backs in the City squad, and his strength and timing of a challenge are invaluable to Pep Guardiola’s side. But more than his ability as a defender, Ruben Dias provides leadership to his team. Statistics cannot measure the leadership that Dias provides. He is an inspirational figure to his teammates and he lifts his fellow defenders. Ruben Dias also sets the standards for his team to follow which is why he has been included in Manchester City’s captaincy group for this season.
It is hoped that Dias can now lead City into a new era now that his contract extension has been made official. He has already been a key pillar of City’s recent era of dominance. He is now likely to be a key component in City’s bid to create a new era of success.
