Chelsea have made great progress on their summer so far.
They’ve added a centre back, a striker, a midfielder, and several young talents have come to join the squad. Goalkeeper could be up next, with talks about Mike Maignan with AC Milan progressing at speed.
There is one position which is clearly a priority which has yet to see an addition beyond the talented but raw Estevao Willian however – left wing.
The need there is even more pressing after it was decided to let Jadon Sancho go after a lukewarm season at Stamford Bridge.
From reading the tea leaves, it seems that Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens is by far the first choice for the Blues. He’s young, English, has tons of upside and won’t demand crazy wages. But there remains a big difference between the German side’s valuation and Chelsea’s latest bid. So it’s vital to keep other deals progressing – and that means making sure we’re ready to move on to our third and fourth target if necessary.

One player who is definitely on the list, and was linked a lot back in January, is Alejandro Garnacho. Fabrizio Romano confirmed over the weekend that Man U were ready to let him go, and he had a number of Premier League suitors.
We assume Chelsea are among them, and according to CaughtOffside’s report today, Arsenal are also on that list. The Gunners are looking to spice up their rather tepid attack, and see Garnacho as a Premier League player with plenty of upside.
Garnacho is still just 20 years old, and it’s easy to see why we would be interested in him, even if he’s not at the top of the list.
From unwanted at United to potentially having two Champions League teams bidding for him – that’s not bad for Alejandro.
