Andrey Santos crashes in strong header to remind Chelsea of their mistake

This is a long, boring international break, and Chelsea aren’t even back in action until next Thursday. So it’s no surprise to see lots of Blues tuning in to watch our sister club Strasbourg in action tonight to get their fix.

The Alsatians didn’t disappoint, beating Lyon 4-2 to climb above them in the table into 5th place, just 3 points off second.

They’re on a superb run, with 6 wins and a draw in their last 7.

Even more incredibly, the team had an average age of 21.3. Liam Rosenior is doing all this with an exceptionally young group. Santos is the cream of that crop, as he proved today with another goal.

Captain Santos had a brilliant game, and crashed in a header from a corner to put his side ahead at the start of a crazy second period.

It’s crazy to think that as recently the end of 2024 there was serious pressure on Rosenior, who had a shaky start after arriving in the summer but now has his team playing great football and getting great results. It’s no surprise to see top Championship clubs being linked – soon it will be Premier League interest.

As for Santos, this is just another reminder of how important he could be for this team next season – and perhaps that it was a foolish decision to send him out on loan this season. He adds so much physicality, leadership and aerial ability that this team lacks. He scores goals from midfield. We can’t wait to see him unleashed at the Club World Cup – he’s one of the players who could take his league form and momentum from this season and really make the most of the chance to impress.
