Andre Onana’s form is a huge cause for concern and Ruben Amorim would ideally like Manchester United to go out and secure a replacement for the Cameroonian.

Lots of goalkeepers from across Europe have been linked with a move to Old Trafford to replace the error-prone Onana, who also has his suitors.

A move to Saudi Arabia could be on the horizon with newly-promoted Saudi Pro League club side Neom reportedly in talks with the goalie’s camp.

United were even prepared to offer potential suitors a massive discount of more than £20 million to get rid of the Cameroon international.

Neom move not happening

But The Daily Mail have poured cold water on these transfer links, claiming the 29-year-old is determined to stay and impress at United.

“Talk of Andre Onana leaving United for Saudi Pro League newcomers Neom this summer would appear to be premature.

“Although the interest from Neom – who won promotion to the SPL last week – is genuine, the Tabuk-based club would face competition from a number of teams in Europe if United sell the Cameroon goalkeeper two years after signing him from Inter Milan for £47.2 million.

“However, Confidential understands Ruben Amorim has prioritised other positions he wants to strengthen in the transfer window, and Onana is determined to make a success of his Old Trafford career after another up-and-down season.”

Onana to stay

Given the financial difficulties INEOS are dealing with, Amorim might not have a huge war chest to work with especially in case Europa League success cannot be attained.

In that case, the head coach will have to prioritise which positions to reinforce and currently, it seems attack and midfield are the club’s top-most priorities which means the United No 1 is safe for now.

Onana has let Amorim down massively, with huge mistakes in both the Premier League and Europa League while his usually impeccable ball-playing skills have also not been on show.

His teammates have supported him despite his slump in form while former United great Edwin van der Sar has also backed the ex-Ajax star to come good next season.
