Three minutes was all it took for Real Madrid to turn the tide around against Bayern Munich last night in the semifinal of the UEFA Champions League.

Down 0-1 in the second leg in the 88th minute, Joselu scored twice for the men in white in quick succession to complete a stunning comeback for his side.

The Spanish veteran was thus the hero for Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu as he came up with one of the most clutch Champions League cameos of all time. The manner of his substitution, however, was very interesting.

The father-son combination

According to reports from AS, Carlo Ancelotti was far from happy with the manner in which the tie was progressing, especially after Alphonso Davies’ goal.

A substitution was needed, but the Italian tactician was not certain which player to call on at such a crucial juncture. At this point, he called out to his son.

“Davide, we need change,” Ancelotti said, calling out his son for advice.

Almost instantaneously, his son Davide knew that Joselu was the man for the moment as he suggested the striker’s name to his father. The veteran was called from his warm-up immediately and brought onto the field.

The rest, as they say, is history.

A strong partnership

A father-son duo working in tandem at football of such an elite level is rare, but it is safe to say that the Ancelotti family is unique in that sense.

Carlo and Davide get along very well in terms of ideology and their vision for the game.

The Italian maestro does not hesitate to listen to his son at times of adversity, and it is not surprising that Davide had a role to play in the team’s comebacks against PSG, Manchester City and Chelsea among others.

With every passing game, the younger Ancelotti’s influence on Real Madrid grows and it is clear that he has a bright future ahead as a tactician.
