Ruben Amorim has been left frustrated by Manchester United’s lack of progress in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United have made just one senior signing so far this summer, after acquiring Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a £62.5m deal.
Despite ongoing talks with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo, the Red Devils have been unable to find an agreement for the winger. Amorim also outlined his desire to sign a centre-forward but has been frustrated by a lack of progress on multiple fronts.
Flashscore are reporting that Amorim expressed his desire to a number nine ‘with presence, pedigree, and consistency’ and pushed for the signings of Victor Osimhen or Viktor Gyokeres.
United’s recruitment team had instead wanted to sign Liam Delap prior to his transfer from Ipswich Town to Chelsea. However, Amorim had reservations over whether the 22-year-old would ‘sufficiently’ raise the level of his side.
United scored just 44 league goals last season, with only Everton scoring fewer among the sides to avoid relegation.
The club’s business has been hampered by an inability to offload unwanted assets. Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho have all returned from loan spells but are yet to seal permanent exits.
United are currently negotiating a severance package with Sancho to help facilitate his exit. Alejandro Garnacho has also been deemed surplus to requirements, but there have been no clubs willing to meet an asking price of around £50m. Garnacho is determined to remain in the Premier League.
Manchester United begin their pre-season campaign this weekend against Leeds United, before heading to the United States for the Premier League’s Summer Series tournament.
