Chelsea are two official games and two friendlies into the new season and by now we’ve seen a bit of most of the summer signings.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Marc Cucurella was full of praise for Jorrel Hato, who has arrived from Ajax to be the Spaniard’s backup for the season.

“Hato made his debut and I’m very happy for him. He’s a very good player, very young, and hopefully I can help him with his adaptation here.”
Cucurella ended up playing a ridiculous amount of games last season, in part because he had to reliable backup after Renato Veiga left on loan in January. This season he has Hato to help out, and will surely appreciate having a few more breaks this time around.
The Dutchman wasn’t the only summer arrival playing for the Blues at the London Stadium – Estevao Willian got his first start for the club after being drafted in as a late replacement for Cole Palmer. Cucurella also had praise for how quickly the young phenomenon had adapted, given he only knew just before kick off he would be starting:
“Estevao is very young but very mature. In theory he was starting on the bench, but in five minutes he needed to be ready. He had to listen to the tactics and everything.
“He had an amazing game. He had an opportunity to score at the end, but he has a lot of quality and he can improve a lot, so hopefully he can continue in this way.”
Cucurella is the second oldest player in the squad and has an important part to play in helping all these guys settle in quickly.
