Amad has defended his Manchester United team-mate Alejandro Garnacho and says he wants him to stay at the club.

Manchester United’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in last week’s Europa League final capped their worst season in the Premier League era.

The Reds finished in 15th place, with no silverware and no qualification for European football.

Following their loss in Bilbao, Garnacho’s future with the club has been thrown into doubt after the Argentine expressed his dissatisfaction that he did not start in the final and then admitting: “I will try to enjoy the summer and then we will see what happens.”

The uncertainty surrounding his future only increased when he was left out of United’s squad on the final day of the Premier League season, a 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

Now in Asia on a post-season tour, Amad was asked about the situation in a press conference in Hong Kong. The Ivorian insisted: “Alejandro is a really good player and we need good players in the team.

“Obviously I know Garna really well, so I hope to have Garna next season. It is not really a big issue for the team. Everything is good now, I think.”

Garnacho’s presence on the trip was indeed a surprise to many who thought he had already played his final game in a United shirt. However, that was not the case as the winger featured for Ruben Amorim’s side during their 1-0 defeat to an ASEAN all-star team.

United’s boss Amorim maintained: “It (Garnacho coming on tour) is not a surprise. He is a player of Manchester United and all the players are here. Some players are injured so it was better for them not to fly here to play these two games. It’s a normal situation, it’s okay.”
