According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, if Antonio Conte leaves, Napoli will offer Massimiliano Allegri a two-year contract worth €6m per season.

Ex-Juventus and Milan coach Allegri is the leading candidate to replce Conte at Napoli, if the Italian tactician leaves the Stadio Maradona.

The latest report from Gazzetta dello Sport claims that contacts between President Aurelio De Laurentiis and Allegri are becoming more and more frequent in recent days as ADL doesn’t want to be unprepared if Conte decides to leave.

Last season, Napoli performed a terrible title defence after winning their first title in 33 years under Luciano Spalletti.

The Partenopei initially replaced their ex-coach with Rudi Garcia and then Walter Mazzarri and Francesco Calzona, finishing outside a European placement.

This time around, ADL wants to be prepared if Conte leaves, and Allegri is by far his primary option.

Allegri already replaced Conte in 2014 when Juventus hired him after his predecessor resigned one day into the 2014-15 pre-season.

What Conte said after Napoli’s title win

“It happened again, and it’s something wonderful. When we got to the stadium, it was honestly difficult to get in, as I don’t know how many people were there. I had a slight thought, if we let these people down, it’d be something we carried with us for a long time.”

“These lads were fantastic, it wasn’t easy, as the pressure on us was insane, but we faced the game in the best way. It has been an extraordinary campaign and the lads deserve the credit for wanting to challenge themselves again, especially those who won two years ago and then finished 10th last season.

“It was certainly the most unexpected, difficult and stimulating challenge of my career. To come to Napoli after 10th place and try to get everything back on track, as it had all rather smashed up last season, and convincing some of the best players to remain because we could do something positive.”
