As Manchester City dispatched Ipswich Town 6-nil yesterday at Portman Road there was a real sense of optimism to come out of the game. Pep Guardiola’s side resembled the team we have seen dominate English football in recent years. There was an energy to their play that has been lacking at times this season. With their emphatic win, they climbed up to fourth in the Premier League table. As you look forward to the remainder of the 24/25 season there is now a sense of optimism that surrounds Pep Guardiola’s side.
Pep Guardiola was thrilled with his team’s performance at Portman Road. The Manchester City manager believed that his team remembered who they were during their win. He explained: “Everything was really good. We were so aggressive and with the ball we were quicker, faster, wiser in the decisions we had to take. The most important thing today is the result for obvious reasons but also the fact that they realise what we were. We realised that when we do this, OK we can compete, and be a team like we enjoy doing what we like to do.”
Manchester City’s performance yesterday does give hope that Pep Guardiola’s side can click into gear over the second half of the season. Although, there are bigger tests ahead for Manchester City than facing Ipswich Town. That begins this week when they face PSG in a crucial UEFA Champions League fixture on Wednesday night. But they will head into that game full of confidence based on their display yesterday.
There is also the prospect of Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov joining the club this week. Pep Guardiola’s squad has been in desperate need of reinforcements and they are on their way. Their arrival, coupled with the return of several key players from injury and returning to form does set Manchester City up well for what lies ahead.
After struggling through a rough patch in recent months Manchester City are now unbeaten in 6 games in all competitions. They now have players in form with the prospect of reinforcements joining the cause this week. All of that combined does give a positive outlook for what lies ahead this campaign. If City can pick up a crucial win over PSG and continue their strong form they may well placed to surge again during the final stages of this season. After the train wreck that was the middle stage of this season that is a massive positive for Pep Guardiola’s side.
