Newcastle United attacker Alexander Isak is the subject of transfer interest from the Saudi Pro League, with Al Hilal reportedly chasing his signature.

Interestingly, the Public Investment Fund (PIF) that took over Newcastle years ago also owns Al Hilal.

Additionally, Isak attracted interest from Liverpool this summer.

However, it remains to be seen if the Reds can pursue the Swede after coughing up €95 million to sign Eintracht Frankfurt ace Hugo Ekitike (a Newcastle target).

Al Hilal remain prominently in the race for his signature, and Isak’s agent delivered a cryptic message about his client’s situation.

“We are indeed studying and analysing all options, and we may be close to finalising the next step for the player,” Gonzalo Gaitan told Saudi newspaper Arriyadiyah.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe revealed that due to the speculation around Isak, he decided the player should stay home and not play in their recent friendly game.

However, the statement from his agent is ominous. Isak could be angling for a move away from the Tyneside outfit, even though local reports have played down the situation.

English media reports have stressed that Newcastle are determined to keep the player, stating the club will not agree to his departure for less than £150 million.

But if any team can match that fee, it is the Saudi League giants. They spent €90 million to sign Neymar, and he barely played before they let him return to Brazil for free.

Since 2023, they have plucked Malcom, Ruben Neves, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and Renan Lodi from Europe.

They also signed Kalidou Koulibaly, Yassine Bono, Marcos Leonardo, and Joao Cancelo.

Al Hilal may have the financial means to pull off the deal, but the optics of the player leaving the Magpies for Al Hilal do not bode well in the eyes of the Premier League or Newcastle fans.
