Alexander Isak has reportedly told Newcastle United that he wants to leave the club amid interest from Liverpool.
The Swedish striker has been a target for the Premier League champions and the club are still keen on the player despite signing Hugo Ekitiké from Eintracht Frankfurt.
According to journalist Martin Hardy of The Times, Isak has turned down a new contract offer from the Magpies with the player apparently holding out for a £300,000 a week – way above the £200,000 the club are willing to offer.
Liverpool had been linked with a £130 million bid for the player but may face competition from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal who could offer a potential £500,000 a week wage.
Any deal to sell Isak is likely to coincide with Newcastle finding a replacement. The Magpies have previously had an offer for Brentford's Yoane Wissa turned down by the club.
Isak played 47 times for Newcastle in all competitions last season, scoring 27 goals and assisting six.
