Ajax Form Guide: Recent Results & Table Position

Ajax are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2023/24 campaign, but they still have a long way to go before reaching the heights of the Erik ten Hag era. The Lancers are showing encouraging signs under Francesco Farioli this season, but they remain inconsistent, especially in the domestic league where they sit 3rd in the table.

On the European stage, the Amsterdam-based giants were unbeaten in their four outings, registering three wins and a draw, but suffered a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Real Sociedad on the previous matchday. Ajax are still expected to advance to the knockout stages, but they’ll need a positive result to maintain their place in the Top Eight.

Lazio Form Guide: Recent Results & Table Position

Following a tough week that saw them settle for a disappointing draw against Ludogorets and lose in Parma, Lazio rebounded in style by beating Napoli twice in the space of three days. The Biancocelesti are only two points adrift of the Serie A leaders Atalanta, and they remain on top of the 36-team Europa League table.

Aside from the aforementioned draw against the Bulgarian champions, Marco Baroni’s men have been flawless in the Europa League, winning their first four fixtures against Dynamo Kyiv, OGC Nice, FC Twente and Porto. Therefore, a win in Amsterdam could be enough to seal a direct spot in the Round of 16 with two matchdays to spare.

Ajax vs Lazio: Match Insights

  • This will be the first-ever meeting between these two sides in an official competition.
  • Ajax have a miserable record against Serie A clubs in their last 12 outings, recording six draws and six defeats, and not a single win.
  • Lazio have won their last two meetings against Dutch opposition. They’ll be looking to make it three in a row for the first time ever.
  • Lazio and Athletic Bilbao boast the best defenses in the Europa League thus far, only conceding two goals, while Ajax are right behind (3).
  • Kenneth Taylor will be looking to become the second player in Ajax history (after Dennis Bergkamp) to score in four home appearances in a row in the UEFA Cup/Europa League.
