AJ injury scare shows Rodgers right to insist on quality signings

Alistair Johnston gave us all a scare when he went off injured during Canada’s recent clash with the USA.

AJ has been in terrific form this season and the last thing we need is to losing one of our best players with some important games on the horizon. Thankfully it doesn’t appear to be anything too serious, and AJ was just subbed as a precaution due to some tightness in his hamstring.

AJ will possibly require a couple of weeks rest and he might miss Saturday’s game with Hearts as well as our opening Champions League clash a week on Wednesday against Slovan Bratislava, but we are more than prepared in the form of cover by his possible absence.

Tony Ralston can of course play there as he is a natural right back, but new Bhoys Alex Valle and Arne Engels can also operate in that position, giving us a number of options that in seasons gone by wasn’t readily available to us.

This further proves why bringing in quality during the window was ever so vital.
