The latest goalkeeper to be linked with transfer interest from Manchester City has seen his agent come out to speak on the subject, confirming attention from ‘abroad’.

Speculation around Manchester City’s goalkeeping position comes as uncertainty surrounding the future of Stefan Ortega Moreno continues to develop with the summer transfer window rapidly approaching.

The German shot-stopper is on the verge of entering into his final year of contract, and while Manchester City will no doubt want to retain the services of the 30-year-old, the former Arminia Bielefeld man may have his eyes on more consistent first-team opportunities.

Having largely featured in cup competitions and dead-rubber fixtures prior to this season, Ortega has seen his chances in high-profile fixtures dramatically increase, mostly due to Ederson’s various fitness problems.

However, with no sign of such opportunities increasing Ortega’s chances of signing a new Etihad Stadium agreement at present, Manchester City continue to be drawing up contingency plans which has led them to Lazio’s Christos Mandas in recent weeks.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia this week, as translated and relayed by Football Italia, agent Diego Tavano revealed that the 22-year-old has ‘interest from abroad’ in light of recent reports linking Manchester City with attention on the player.

“We need to sit down and talk to Lazio about reviewing the contract, because it was all done very quickly and with the idea that he was the third choice goalkeeper,” Tavano explained. “Now is second choice, but has already proved he can stand in for Provedel.”

He continued, “We will certainly need to discuss it. There is also interest from abroad and we’ll talk about it to the club. I don’t think that President Claudio Lotito will hold back for the renewal and might even propose an extension of the contract for a talent who was signed at a very accessible price.”

Despite talk in various outlets of a potential goalkeeping change at Manchester City this summer, there has been a lack of reports linking Stefan Ortega with a move away from the club, despite intense conversation during the last two markets.

Ortega was the subject of transfer interest from Bayern Munich last summer, while it is understood that Nottingham Forest explored the possibility of signing the German during the recent January market.

For now, the understanding is Ortega remains relaxed over his own future, and will take time to make a decision alongside the thoughts of his young family, before relaying those feelings to Manchester City at the end of the season.
