One player who figures to have a prominent role as the future of Manchester City’s defence is Brazilian centre-back Vitor Reis. There is no doubt that Reis has the pedigree and potential to one day become a key player at Manchester City. But looking at his prospects for the 25/26 season a loan move could be the best move for the development of Vitor Reis. The young centre-back has been heavily linked with a move to Girona. That could be the ideal setting for the young Brazilian defender to grow as a player next season.

Girona have agreed a loan deal with Manchester City for Vitor Reis but there are other suitors.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Girona have agreed a loan deal in principle to secure the services of Vitor Reis for the 25/26 season. Furthermore, Romano reports that there are formalities to be completed before Reis travels to Spain for a medical and contract signing.

Esteemed Kompany sources have also learned that there is a school of thought at Manchester City that Vitor Reis would benefit from staying at the club for next season. But Reis has requested a loan move for next season. The young defender is eager to play regular first-team football. This will aid his development as a player and aid the cause of Vitor Reis being called up by the Brazilian national team.

Esteemed Kompany sources have also revealed that there are a host of clubs interested in signing Vitor Reis on loan. FC Porto, Valencia, Real Betis and Sevilla were eager to sign Reis for next season. But he appears poised to join Girona.

A loan move will likely accelerate the development of Vitor Reis.

As of right now, Vitor Reis would face a battle to play regularly at Manchester City next season. With Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, Manuel Akanji, John Stones, Nathan Ake and Abdukodir Khusanov on City’s books, Reis would likely be on the periphery of Pep Guardiola’s squad. It would be difficult for the young centre-back to get consistent minutes at City. With Vitor Reis having the goal of being called up for Brazil he needs to be playing regularly. A loan move to Girona would give him that opportunity. It would also help him grow as a player. That would be to Manchester City and Vitor Reis’ benefit.

To become the future of Manchester City’s defence Vitor Reis needs to grow both physically and as a player. He has all of the tools to become a top-quality centre-back. He is poised in possession and reads the game exceptionally well. Physically, Vitor Reis is a tall defender but not the strongest. That isn’t a surprise given he is only 19 years of age. By spending next season at Girona, Reis can hone his craft against quality opposition in La Liga. Playing at Girona keeps Reis as a part of the City Football Group. The Manchester City hierarchy can track his progress from afar to judge his growth throughout next season. That is one benefit of Vitor Reis joining Girona on loan. The other is playing under Girona manager Michel. Michel’s side plays an attractive brand of football which should aid the development of Reis in possession. He could also become a key part of their 25/26 campaign at the back.

Final thoughts.

Vitor Reis looks set to leave Manchester City on loan in the coming weeks. The young Brazilian centre-back figures to be a prominent player in City’s future. But to get to that point he needs to be playing regular first-team football. A loan move to Girona will allow him that opportunity. If the move comes to fruition, it will aid Reis’ development, and from a City point of view, it will fast-track his growth as a player. That is a win for both parties.
