9 positives to come out of this Newcastle United weekend

I know that The Mag normally asks somebody to do three Newcastle United positives and three negatives after each match.

Don’t worry, I’m not after anybody’s job.

However, I did want to put forward my own positives from the weekend.

I actually have nine of them. Yes, NINE of them.

As we all know, Newcastle United lined up against Wolves, kind of like this:

Pope

Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall

Joelinton, Bruno, Longstaff

Jacob Murphy, Isak, Gordon

However, Newcastle United could have also lined up like this on Sunday…

Dubravka

Trippier, Krafth, Kelly, Targett

Tonali, Willock, Alfie Harrison

Almiron, Osula, Barnes

Everybody has talked about how the subs were crucial on Sunday in terms of getting the result.

However, I haven’t seen much, if any, mention of just how strong the entire bench was.

That alternative eleven above, made up of the nine subs who were at Molineux, plus Matt Targett, who presumably was dropped from the bench due to the stiff competition now to even make that!

I do think these were nine massive Newcastle United positives (plus a tenth in Targett who was left out) to relish on Sunday.

A clear sign that we are crawling our way back to a really strong available squad. The strongest it has been in a long time.

I picked out promising teenage recruit from Man City, Alfie Harrison, to make up that alternative eleven. However, it could also have been other promising teenagers Alex Murphy or Trevan Sanusi.

Plus of course a choice of three other keepers in Vlachodimos, Ruddy and Gillespie!

I make it that as things stand, so long as Isak and the rest are ok after Sunday, we are still just waiting of Botman, Wilson, Lascelles and Lewis Miley to return.

We are now in a far better position to face the likes of next Tuesday’s away cup match at AFC Wimbledon, now the reinforcements are largely back in place, as well as for future rounds hopefully…
