This week’s edition of the Athletic’s Transfer Dealsheet is out, and it has some really interesting Chelsea bits in it, as ever.

We focused on one part in particular – the reports about Armando Broja. The piece had the following to say about the academy produced striker.

“Chelsea have set the asking price for Albania striker Armando Broja at £25million. The Transfer DealSheet revealed last month that Stuttgart and Leipzig are among the clubs interested.”

The Athletic’s Chelsea man Simon Johnson seems to have a good source in the Broja camp – he always has the exclusive snippets like this. Last month’s report from them claimed that Stuttgart and RB Leipzig were both interested.

We can well believe that those teams are interested – Broja is still young and has potential. But given the lack of football he’s played in the last few years, we can’t believe that Chelsea are seriously holding out for that sort of money.

Other options already closed out by asking price

We had sources of our own tell us a little over a week ago that the list of teams included Parma and PSV Eindhoven too. Those two would be even less capable of paying such a hefty fee. Everton have already been put off signing him by the asking price set in the loan deal that had him there last season.

It’s a crazy asking price, unless of course a Saudi Arabian team are going to come in and bail us out like they have with Joao Felix. But Broja doesn’t have the name brand that Felix does, and after so many dodgy seasons in a row, it’s hard to see anyone having the sort of faith in him that £25m requires.
