4 Norwich City players who will surely be seeking a loan exit before August 30th

Norwich have plenty of young talent that they can temporarily offload this summer.

Highlights

  • With Johannes Hoff Thorup taking the reins, all Norwich players are getting a fresh start, including young talents like Tony Springett.
  • Players like Vicente Reyes and Jon Tomkinson may benefit from seeking temporary moves away for more playing time and development.
  • For players like Jaden Warner, another loan spell away from Carrow Road could be crucial for their growth and potential in the long term.

The Johannes Hoff Thorup era has begun at Carrow Road, and it will be very interesting to see what approach the 35-year-old manager takes to young players.

The Canaries are working with a completely clean slate now, following the exit of David Wagner after their embarrassing play-off semi-final second leg defeat to Leeds United.

The German boss did well to get them into the play-offs, but the feeling among supporters towards the former boss was never quite right during the campaign. They just didn't appear to be entirely convinced by him.

Now that Hoff Thorup is in charge, and he's got his first signing of the summer in Jose Córdoba, every player, young and old, will get a fresh beginning at Carrow Road.

The likes of Abu Kamara, who has returned to Norwich following a successful loan spell at Portsmouth, should start to be properly integrated into the first team. But there are some other youthful members of the team that should be seeking a temporary move away from East Anglia before the end of the window.

Tony Springett

The Irish under-21s midfielder did spend the first half of the 2023/24 campaign with the City squad, but he ended up moving to League One's Northampton Town in January.

In that six-month period before his loan spell, he made 10 Championship appearances and started one game. There is potential for him to continue to develop and start to become a regular in the matchday squad.

But, if that can't be provided by Hoff Thorup, the move for him has to be to find another team for him to get regular minutes with.

Vicente Reyes

Experiencing relegation at just 20-years-old, in your first loan move, can't have been nice for Vicente Reyes, but his time at Forest Green Rovers did show some very encouraging signs.

The Chilean kept five clean sheets in 16 games and saved 71% of the shots that he faced after arriving in mid-February as an emergency loanee; impressive numbers considering his team ended up bottom of League Two.

He should now be looking to see if there are any teams slightly higher up in the fourth division, or even in League One, that like the look of him.

Jon Tomkinson

The young American's season-long spell with Bradford City last time out was one that was disrupted by injuries. He only appeared in 23 league games. The encouraging bit, though, is that he started 17 of those games.

City weren't too far off the play-offs come the end of the season, and this realm of fourth tier side may be one that Jon Tomkinson can look to this summer for a temporary switch.

Jaden Warner

Of the four listed Norwich players who could try and find a move away from Carrow Road this summer, with the view of returning by the end of the season, Jaden Warner has shown the least potential in his previous moves.

His half-season stint with Notts County only led to 10 appearances in the league for him.

He is only 21, so there is time for him to improve and develop. Realistically, the best place for him to do that may be on the National League circuit, but another loan spell will serve him better than playing for Norwich's under-21s.
