David Moyes’ return to Everton has had the desired effect, lifting the crowd, helping the team to some good results and starting their journey up the table away from relegation trouble. They’ve got two wins from his first three, and want to build on that.
There are only a few days left in January for the former Manchester United and West Ham boss to strengthen his squad, and it sounds like he’s in a hurry to do just that. Chelsea are involved at every turn, too.
First up is the loan of Armando Broja. The striker has picked up an injury that will rule him out for most of the rest of the season, and understandably the Toffees would like to cancel it. However they can’t do that unilaterally, and Chelsea are demanding something in return to make it happen.
TeamTalk’s exclusive report today says that the clubs remain in talks over cancelling the loan, with Chelsea willing to do that if the Merseyside club take one of their unwanted squad players in his place – Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall have all been suggested.

Moyes is said to be a fan of Dewsbury-Hall, and apparently was interested in signing him for West Ham last season when he managed there. After so much time on our bench, joining an upwardly mobile Everton as a key player may be a temptation for the midfielder. He racked up 26 goal contributions in the Championship, and that sort of thing would be a huge boost for the Toffees.
Sources have also told TeamTalk that Chukwuemeka would consider an Everton move – although given Juventus are also apparently interested in him now, he may decide to pump the brakes on a move to Goodison until he sees if there really is an Italian adventure available to him.
