It has emerged in recent days that both Fiorentina and Aston Villa are monitoring Rangers midfielder Nico Raskin, with a potential summer move valued at around twenty five million pounds. The Belgian international has caught the eye with his energy, pressing, and technical ability, and it seems his performances at Ibrox have not gone unnoticed in mainland Europe or down south. West Ham have also been linked in what appears to be growing Premier League interest.
Raskin arrived in January 2023 from Standard Liege and immediately impressed with his drive and work rate, playing a key role in Rangers’ midfield alongside the likes of Lundstram and Jack. Although injuries have occasionally interrupted his rhythm, his talent is evident and his age means there is clear potential for development. His controversial disallowed goal at Easter Road recently reignited fan frustration, with many believing the ball had clearly crossed the line.
Fiorentina’s interest is not new. The Serie A side have a long history of scouting in Belgium and see Raskin as a player who could slot into their midfield with ease, offering a blend of grit and flair. Aston Villa, meanwhile, are reportedly keeping tabs as they look to add depth to their squad for the European campaign. With Unai Emery favouring midfielders who can recycle possession quickly and press high, Raskin fits that profile well. Barry Ferguson’s reported clash with Raskin earlier this season adds extra edge to his Ibrox narrative.
Rangers are believed to be holding out for a premium fee, with suggestions they would only consider selling if a bid in the region of twenty five million pounds was submitted. While that may seem steep for a player with just over a year and a half of Scottish football experience, the club are under no pressure to sell and know his value will only rise if he stays fit and continues to start regularly.
Supporters are likely to be torn. On one hand, losing another promising young talent would be a blow, especially given the mixed record of recruitment in recent windows. On the other, a massive fee for a player signed for under two million would represent excellent business.
