Chelsea are set to stick with off-white for their away kit in 2025/26, having worn a cream change strip during the current campaign.
Although things have been periodically switched up with black or different shades of blue, Chelsea have typically opted for white or yellow when it comes to away colours over the years.
Next season's design, leaks of which have been revealed by Footy Headlines, is an off-white base with red and green trim and detailing. Inspiration comes from a white away shirt worn in the 1970s that featured a thick red and green stripe down the middle.
The updated version that will be released in summer has done away with the block colour, in favour of more subtle pinstripes – three red, three green. The kit will again be made by Nike, partnered with Chelsea since 2017, and also features red and green sleeve cuffs.
Chelsea have been playing without a front of shirt sponsor in 2024/25, which is a plus for the football purists but is leaving a hole in club finances by not having a brand pay big money to have their name or logo displayed on such a valuable advertising space.
It remains to be seen whether that will change next season, with Chelsea thought to have delayed entering a new sponsor partnership in the hope of commanding a more lucrative deal with an upturn in fortunes on the pitch. Firms may be willing to pay more if the club is competing in the Champions League, for example. The Blues have been out of that elite competition since 2023.
The away kit works well as a sponsor-less design, but it remains to be seen how a sponsor logo would be incorporated if a new partner is found.
With shirts designed more than a year in advance, sponsor logos can often be a last-minute addition if there is a break in contracts and a new partner is not secured until very late in the process, as could be Chelsea's case. It can be the bane of designers, who may suddenly see a jarring brand logo slapped on their carefully crafted work.
