Ahead of their weekend game, Manchester United pair Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo knew they were walking a tightrope.

Both players were on four yellow cards for the Premier League season, meaning their next would see them suspended for one game. Picking up bookings against Everton would rule them out of an away trip to Arsenal on Wednesday.

That started to look unlikely with the way the game was going, with United racing into a 3-0 lead by the 46th minute. If Ruben Amorim had wanted to, he could have substituted Martinez and Mainoo to ensure they were kept fresh and available for Arsenal.

Instead, five minutes later, both had picked up yellow cards and one-game bans.

If Martinez and Mainoo were foolish to get themselves suspended, Bruno Fernandes was just unlucky later in the half.

The midfielder limped off with an apparent injury, and TV images showed him with an ice pack on his ankle on the substitute bench. There are now concerns over whether he’ll be available against Arsenal as well.

In terms of other potential absentees against Arsenal, Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans have both had recent injuries, and it’ll be worth keeping an eye on whether they’re fit to make the squad against Everton. Both are very close to a comeback now.

Leny Yoro seems less likely to be involved against Arsenal, and he’s certainly not expected to play against Everton, having spent a few months on the sidelines following his pre-season injury against the Gunners.
