Gassan Ahadme's Charlton Athletic could be up in the air, with QPR's Charlie Kelman joining the club

After approaches from Luton Town and Major League Soccer outfit Charlotte FC, QPR's Charlie Kelman has joined newly promoted Charlton Athletic.

In a move valued at around £3 million according to West London Sport, the striker has joined the Addicks after scoring 21 times in League One for Leyton Orient last term.

With Kelman joining to lead the line at the Valley next term, it could mean that Charlton's Gassan Ahadme is pushed firmly down the pecking order.

The £1 million signing from Ipswich last summer endured a difficult campaign under Nathan Jones in League One.

And with Miles Leaburn, Tanto Olaofe and Matt Godden all vying for minutes along with the marquee addition of Kelman, Ahadme may consider drawing a line throughout his Charlton career, and begin looking for a move this summer.

Gassan Ahadme man could be down the Charlton Athletic pecking order this season

After already securing the signature of Tanto Olaofe earlier this summer, it was likely that Ahadme was going to be further down the pecking order than he would have liked anyway.

With three of Olaofe's eight goals in League One last term coming from the bench, it is likely that the 25-year-old will operate as first reserve for Kelman, who netted 27 times in all competitions last term.

Jones, of course, could deploy a two-up-top formation, although Olaofe's powerful, direct running and ability to stretch defences means he could be a devastating impact substitute late in matches.

For Ahadme, this could spell trouble. He failed to hit the ground running after joining from Ipswich Town last summer, netting just once in his first seven matches before being dropped in favour of Matty Godden.

He then even found himself replaced on the bench by the likes of Miles Leaburn and Daniel Kanu, while making just two appearances following the turn of the year.

The chances are that now a big EFL name in Kelman has arrived, Ahadme will struggle for minutes even more than last term.

A move away might have to be considered

Ahadme signed a four-year deal when he arrived at the Valley last summer, but a change of scenery may be needed already.

The former Ipswich man showed glimpses of talent in front of goal on loan at Cambridge United during the 2023/24 season, which ultimately led Charlton to bring him in for £1 million.

Additionally, Ahadme's exploits in the FA Cup this past season, scoring three in as many games, serve to show that, when given opportunities, he can take them, but just at a rate less consistently than Nathan Jones, perhaps, would like him to.

Given the seven-figure fee it cost to bring him to the club, however, the Addicks will likely not make a sale this summer to avoid losing money on Ahadme.

Charlton prepare for life in the Championship.
