“100% I want him to stay,” Liam Scales urges Celtic to sign Adam Idah

Liam Scales dreams of a Celtic re-union with his fellow Irish internationalist Adam Idah and has urged the powers that be at the club to do everything they can to make the transfer from Norwich City happen.

There was some talk yesterday of Norwich interest in a deal that would involve Mikey Johnston plus cash deal for Idah and that is likely to interest Michael Nicholson. And it should be remembered that while Idah was a huge success at Celtic since his arrival at the end of January, before that he had a frustrating time in the English Championship with Norwich where he couldn’t get a start and had the support on his back.

There are parallels there with Mikey Johnston’s season where he struggled to find form at Celtic before going on loan to West Brow where he was a huge success, even winning a Championship player of the month and scoring seven goals in 18 appearances.

Johnston is a target for West Brom too, understandably and a £6m fee would be useful to counter the cost of signing Idah from Norwich. Or a deal could be done that involves Johnston heading to Carrow Road. What is unlikely is that Celtic will look at any loan deal request for the winger, who appeared to struggled to cope with the weight of the Celtic jersey and a move away would seem to be in everyone’s interest.

Speaking to Irish journalist Paul O’Hehir (via Daily Record) ahead of the friendly this evening between Portugal and Ireland, the Celtic central defender urged Celtic to get the deal done to bring Idah back to the club for next season.

“100% I want him to stay,” Scales said. “Every Celtic fan and everyone at the club would love to have him back. He was outstanding but a lot of things have to go right for that to happen but hopefully it will.”

It’s fair to say that amid the winter gloom and the underwhelming January transfer window, the arrival of Idah alongside the £3m signing Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna, were not wildly celebrated by a frustrated Celtic support. And while Kuhn has had a quieter start to his time at Celtic, Idah made a significant impact in his time, keeping the best for last with that 90th minute winner in the Scottish Cup Final win over theRangers.

Scales praised Idah for turning the support around in his four months at the club and you’d now struggle to find a Celtic supporter not desperate for the club to announce his signing. The window opens on Friday this week so let’s get the deal done as early as possible!

Scales understands the mood amongst the support at the time of Idah’s arrival.“That’s the case with Celtic fans a lot of the time, it doesn’t reflect on Adam at all. They have high standards and I don’t think it bothered Adam,” he said.

“He’s just that sort of character that if it goes well and he starts like he did, he will be flying. It’s a testament to his character that he was able to do that and go and have the half season he did. He played a massive part in us winning the league and then scoring the winner in the Cup final and I’m delighted for him.

“The cup final wasn’t the most entertaining game but to win in the last minute was brilliant. The celebrations in the stadium were amazing.”
