Challenger Pro League leaders Zulte Waregem have announced the signing of Tobias Hedl from Rapid Wien. The young striker has joined initially on loan until the end of the season, with a purchase option having been agreed between the two sides. In their announcement of the signing the club said that because Nathan Fraser returned to his parent club Wolves, the side wanted to bring in another attacking option. Fraser struggled to really get going in Belgium, playing just five games in all competitions.
Hedl has spent his career so far playing for the Rapid Wien second team. In 13 games for the second team this season he has scored an impressive 11 goals and provided three assists. He has also made three fleeting appearances for the first team, where his brother Niklas is the goalkeeper. Hedl the striker has been capped at international youth level by Austria.
Zulte Waregem are currently in pole position to return to the Pro League at the second time of asking. They are four points clear of second place, but more importantly nine points clear of third. In the Belgian second tier only the top two gain automatic promotion.
