Inter legend Ivan Zamorano says that playing at San Siro will be an ‘extra weapon’ for the Nerazzurri and is confident that Simone Inzaghi will find solutions to stop Lamine Yamal.
The Nerazzurri host Barcelona in the second leg of the Champions League semifinal tonight.
The first leg in Spain ended in a spectacular 3-3 draw.
Zamorano, a former Inter striker, previewed the game in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, saying he’d be in the stands tonight alongside his son.
“I imagine a very open game. Just look at the line-ups and how many players could decide the game single-handedly,” said the former striker.
“Honestly, the qualification is hanging by a thread, but Inter have an extra weapon.”
Which one?
“San Siro. I can say this because I played important matches in this stadium,” Zamorano replied.
“It gives incredible energy and it can make the difference in tight, balanced games. On the other side, there is a Barcelona team that plays great football. Flick’s team is mature, even if many players are young. They know how to adapt their approach.
“Inter and Barcelona have different philosophies but are similar in one aspect,” the former Chile international continued.

“They both play better with the ball than without. Inzaghi’s team will need to keep possession for as long as possible, taking away Barcelona’s certainties. It’s not easy, obviously, but this could be the key. The team with more control of the ball will go to the Final. In any case, I don’t know whether we should expect many goals. It’s not guaranteed. We might not see a repeat of the first leg, which was shaped by Inter’s first two goals, which forced Barcelona to attack.”
Inzaghi said at a pre-match press conference that Inter would try to prevent Barcelona star Yamal from getting the ball.
“If a world-class player is on his day, there’s no way to stop him. You can try to limit him,” Zamorano confirmed.
“I believe Inzaghi will find the correct answer. Two things come to mind: first, anticipation, Inter should not wait for him to receive the ball, it would be like giving him the first move. Second, they must limit those who provide him with the ball to reduce the number of his touches.”
The former striker is confident that the winning side tonight will also lift the trophy in the Final on May 31.
“Whoever goes to the final from this game will win the trophy, I’m sure about it,” he concluded.
Inter already reached the Champions League Final in 2023, losing to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. The last time they won the trophy was in 2010 under José Mourinho.
