Just as it appeared that there was relief in sight to the injury situation that has surrounded Manchester City a fresh injury blow has been revealed today. Pep Guardiola revealed today that Ruben Dias is set to be out of action for 3-4 weeks. It is a cruel blow for Pep Guardiola’s side ahead of tomorrow’s pivotal Premier League fixture against Aston Villa.
Speaking during his pre-game press conference ahead of tomorrow’s match Guardiola revealed that Ruben Dias is set for a spell on the sidelines. He told the media: “Ruben Dias will be out for three or four weeks. It’s muscular. He played 75 minutes against United, and he felt something, but he is so strong and wanted to stay on the pitch.”
Yesterday it was revealed that John Stones and Manuel Akanji had both returned to training. Speaking on the pair Pep Guardiola was unsure if they could start against Aston Villa. Guardiola said when asked about the duo: “Manuel [Akanji] and John [Stones] are back in training. That is good for us. I don’t know yet [if they will start on Saturday]. Yesterday was their first training session.”
The news of the injury suffered by Ruben Dias is a cruel blow for Manchester City. Dias is one City’s leaders and is also one of, if not their best centre-back. The news of his injury is a cruel blow for Pep Guardiola’s side. It has put a dampener on the returns of Manuel Akanji and John Stones. It will now be interesting to see what defensive lineup Pep Guardiola selects tomorrow at Villa Park. But once again City’s defensive stocks have taken a hit which has become a familiar pattern in recent weeks.
