RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons is open to a Chelsea switch this summer, according to journalist Matt Law.
Chelsea have been trying to reinforce their attack with a versatile player, and Simons fits the bill. However, they have players who can cover the same roles.
Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix are positionally versatile. The Blues must sell them before adding another similar player to the ranks.
Nicolas Jackson is another candidate to exit Stamford Bridge this summer after falling down the pecking order following the arrival of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.
Chelsea are not the only club to have shown interest in the Simons. Bayern Munich have been tracking his progress. Sporting director Max Eberl is a fan.
Barcelona considered a reunion with Simons. Arsenal were reportedly interested, and Inter Milan have him on their shortlist, but he is open to joining Chelsea.
However, it is unclear why Simons is keen on joining the Blues, considering they may use him as a back-up option.
He is not a natural left-winger and his favoured midfield positions are occupied by Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer.
Simons left Paris Saint-Germain in search of game time, and he likely won’t be keen on settling for a back-up role at Stamford Bridge.
From Chelsea’s perspective, paying €70-€80 million for the former Barcelona starlet to provide cover makes no sense.
