Xabi Alonso may have found his ‘new Joselu’ in Real Madrid’s youth ranks | OneFootball

Incoming Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso is ready to afford an opportunity to impress to a highly-regarded member of the club’s youth setup this summer.

That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards Gonzalo García as the player in question.

The name of youngster Gonzalo will no doubt be a familiar one to weekly viewers of Real Madrid. This comes with the 21-year-old having been called up for first-team duties on a number of occasions this past season.

Gonzalo made his mark, too, notching a goal and an assist in four appearances between La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

It was the frontman’s 25 league goals for Real Madrid Castilla, though, which truly turned heads…

To the point that, according to AS, Gonzalo will be called upon by Xabi Alonso to travel with Real Madrid for the upcoming Club World Cup.

Not only that, but:

‘Xabi Alonso’s idea is to test Gonzalo as a real alternative for the first team. In that role Joselu left vacant. As a finisher. As a dominator of the aerial game.’

It now remains to be seen if the Spaniard can take advantage of the opportunity awaiting him in the USA.
