Chelsea have just lost 3-0 to Brighton at the Amex, and were booed off the pitch by their few remaining fans in the stadium.

BBC Sport football writer and former Chelsea Evening Standard correspondent Nizaar Kinsella has watched a lot of the Blues over the years – almost as much as us – and he wasn’t holding back in his assessment of this match:

“Chelsea had played well in parts of the first half, until Noni Madueke’s injury hindered the game plan, but as a full 90 minutes, this is feels like the worst performance under Enzo Maresca since took charge as manager in the summer.”

We can’t disagree with that. There have been some really timid and cowardly showings, especially of late, but this might be the worst. We ended the game with 0 shots on target.

Carragher sticks the oar into dire Chelsea

Jamie Carragher was on commentary duties for Sky Sports tonight, and after being critical in the first half, he stepped up his words in the second:

“When you look at Chelsea’s team you think it looks quite tasty and they have some great players on there. But there is something lacking. It will be interesting to see if they finish better than the team last season under Pochettino. They have battered Chelsea.

He was particularly critical of Brighton’s third goal, where Levi Colwill was nicked and wanted a foul, before the defence crumpled and allowed the Seagulls to score.

“Chelsea are appealing for a foul but I don’t think there is too much in it. It just sums up the difference between the two teams.”

He also slammed the “awful defending” from Marc Cucurella in the builup to that goal, as well as the total lack of organisation from the full back and winger Jadon Sancho, who was also run around on that goal.
