Alexia Putellas celebrates for Spain after scoring two goals against Belgium
The Women’s Euro 2025 final between England and Spain is just two days away, and here we name our predictions for who will the Player of the Tournament and Golden Boot awards.
The winner of the Women’s Euro 2025 Player of the Tournament is likely to be decided by whoever wins the final in Basel on July 27th.
Going into the final it appears likely that a Spanish player will win the trophy as they have been the standout team of the tournament.
For England, while a number of players have impressed, it is much more harder to narrow down who has been the most influential players for the Lionesses.
Alexia Putellas is undoubtedly the favourite to win the award going into this Sunday’s final.
Her three goals and four assists mean she has more goal involvements than any other player at this tournament.
Her main challenger is likely to come in the form of midfielder Patricia Guijarro who has been a rock in the midfield for Spain.
The two players have the highest average ratings out of any players to compete in the tournament, with Putellas (8.32) narrowly ahead of Guijarro.
Another potential contender is Esther Gonzalez who has four goals at the tournament. However, she would likely need a big performance to overcome Putellas.
For England the likes of Hannah Hampton, Ella Toone, Alessia Russo and Georgia Stanway have all played well at Women’s Euro 2025.
However, their performances have perhaps not quite the caught the eye as some of Spain’s stars so far this tournament.
Chloe Kelly and Michelle Agyemang have each not started a game at Euro 2025 and might have to come off the bench again on Sunday.
However, they made game-changing impacts against both Sweden and Italy, and if they can repeat that then they might have an outside shot to win the award.
SheKicks predicts that Alexia Putellas will win the award regardless of who prevails in the final this weekend.
Her level of displays have been unmatched at the Euros to a level where it would be difficult to surpass her for this award even if Spain lose.
Patricia Guijarro deserves a mention after her excellent displays in midfield. However, these awards traditionally more often favour those with the more eye-catching goal involvement numbers.
It is going to be tough for England to stop a Spanish player from notching up the Golden Boot award on Sunday.
The Golden Boot odds have favoured Esther Gonzalez throughout the tournament. Despite failing to score in the knockout phase thus far, Gonzalez still leads the scoring charts with four goals.
Alexia Putellas is also in contention for the award with three goals to her name – also all in the group stage.
Spain pair have Claudia Pina and Athenea del Castillo on two goals to their name. However, the level of attacking talent in the Spain squad means they share their goals across the team, meaning it would be a big effort for either player to catch up with Gonzalez.
Ella Toone, Lauren James and Michelle Agyemang all have two goals to their name also at the Euros.
James would need to repeat her brace that she scored against the Netherlands to match Gonzalez.
Toone plays in midfield, while Agyemang is only likely to come off the bench so it would be a surprise to see either player get themselves into contention.
SheKicks predicts that Esther Gonzalez and Alexia Putellas will share the Golden Boot award with four goals apiece.
For this to happen, Gonzalez would have to go goalless against the Lionesses, with Putellas finding the back of the net once.
Putellas is a big game player and a likely contender for the Ballon d’Or award this season.
So this weekend’s final gives her a good chance of cementing her Ballon d’Or status if she scores in a Spain victory.
The UK’s top football betting sites meanwhile have Spain as 1/3 favourites to lift the trophy. With the Lionesses underdogs at odds of 2/1.
